Lent

Lent. Let’s talk Lent.

Lent is the start of the Easter season, a time of preparation for Christians. It is a 40 day period in which people use this time to give up something with the intent to focus more on their faith and relationships. People give up anything from coffee, a specific food (or all foods!), alcohol, television, gossiping, meat, social media, technology, spending and more. Other people tend to include other habits such as practicing gratitude or incorporating other healthy habits!

In this season, it is always a good idea to be thoughtful about what is positive -or not- in your life. How can I do better and be better in some way. and what do I need to get there?? We give up things that are often our stronghold- something that limits us in some way. This practice can take a lot of thoughtfulness as well as dedication to complete the full 40 days, which ends 3 days before Easter.

I have been thoughtful about both my physical and emotional health and where I am at in my journey currently. One thing that I noticed more recently is that I struggle with resentments and letting things go. I struggle with “little things” that turn into big things and I hold on to these “things” that are not of great significance. I recently came to the realization that my physical health has been very much impacted by my emotional health. I am experiencing my grief in my lungs, as I have not yet processed my sadness around losing my mother. Or my father in some ways, as he passed away 8 years ago. I struggle with anger, which is held in my liver. I have Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver, which is a growing issue in our culture. I have recently been giving my body and my emotional side more attention to work on reducing all the ill effects of the mind-body connection that I have experienced. With this season, I am focused on “letting go” and working daily on my emotional health.

I feel that I have neglected my emotional health in the past couple years, due to various situations and life and #momlife. A few months ago, I started a nutritional protocol to help my physical self and balance my physical body. My body is healthier and remains strong, but my emotional health is needing attending. I am forever grateful to the YL products that have been a HUGE part of rebuilding my nutritional health as well as supporting my emotional health to this point. I am excited to learn more about targeting my specific health needs to continue to grow in health and wellness and be an example to my family and friends.

I anticipate that the next 40 days will be quite a challenge for me, as my habit is an ingrained pattern that has likely existed throughout my life. I will be challenged but I hope I will also be encouraged by the results by the end of these 40 days. I will have to draw strength from my oils and Jesus, as I develop new habits to replace my old ones.

Are you giving up anything for Lent? If so, why!?
