Navigating Therapy and Coaching: Which Path Suits You Best?

When navigating the journey of personal growth and healing, it’s essential to understand the distinct roles that therapy and coaching play. Let’s talk about the benefits and differences between the two.

Therapy often delves into past traumas and issues to heal emotional wounds, while coaching focuses on setting goals and creating a new path forward. Both are valuable tools in the quest for mental wellness, but they serve different purposes.

A therapist is a Master’s level clinician that treats emotional distress and mental illnesses, requiring that clients meet diagnosis criteria. Time spent in therapy is often past-focused, dealing with trauma and addressing emotional issues. Therapy services often are covered (or partially) covered by insurances. Therapists help clients process and overcome the challenges from the past to (hopefully) move into a more healthy and joyful present.

Coaching enhances mental fitness, personal development and goal achievement. They are future-oriented, goal setting and action focused. Coaches can have a variety of backgrounds and education, often specialized in specific niches. Coaching is typically private pay and is not covered by insurance but also generally has a shorter time frame.

Therapy services address mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression while coaching targets personal growth, career advancement and life transitions. Therapy is important when the past experiences impact your well-being whereas coaching helps improve skills, productivity and life satisfaction. Coaching is more beneficial when you are already functioning well but want to thrive!

As a therapist and coach, I guide Christian women through their struggles with anxiety and burnout, helping them uncover the root causes of their distress. By integrating holistic health practices, energy work, and aroma therapy, I empower them to rediscover joy and freedom in their lives. It’s not just about coping—it’s about thriving and embracing a life filled with purpose and happiness. (Learn more here.) Let’s embark on this transformative journey together, one notification at a time.
